Treecare Glossary
BOLTING: Installation of ΒΌ inch threaded -steel into cracked, splitting, or weak joints of a tree. This is typically used when considerable structural support is necessary to ensure the health of a tree.
CABLING: Providing structural support to weak joints through the use of EXTRA HIGH STRENGTH CABLE between 2 or more main stems.
CANOPY RAISING: The removal of the lower growing lateral limbs to provide sufficient head clearance, while maintaining a symmetrically formed tree.
CROWN THINNING: The selective removal of branches/limbs to increase sunlight penetration, air flow, and/or to reduce weight in highly stressed areas.
DEADWOOD: The removal of all dead, dying, or diseased branches in order to insure safety as well as aesthetically pleasing tree structure.
PLANT HEALTHCARE or PHC for trees: A comprehensive program employing multiple management measures designed to protect trees against problems such as disease and insect infestation, as well as maintaining proper fertilization, water and soil conditions.
STUMP GRINDING: The grinding of all apparent surface and feeder roots (8-12 inches below soil grade). Grindings will be left in or adjacent to the subsequent hole. They can also be removed completely for an additional charge.
TREE REMOVAL: The removal of entire tree by highly qualified technicians for landscape health, safety, and aesthetics.
WEIGHT REDUCTION: The removal of large, lower, elongated branches to alleviate overall weight of the tree limbs.
